It represents a simplified representation of the location of the place, which was created at the foot of the wooded Pettenfirst by clearing a settlement cell.

history

In the middle of Upper Austria there is a mini mountain range that is actually a valley: about 17 million years ago a sea silted up here, the bottom of which was filled with river gravel from the emerging Alps. Ten million years later, a cypress forest flourished on it, which soon disappeared under the rubble. It was only recently that the more than 200 m high gravel cover began to be removed: This is how the ridge of the Hausruck Forest was created . The relics of prehistoric trees were used in the 19th and 20th centuries in the form of coal.

The place name Zell was mentioned for the first time in 1371 in a land register of the Schaunberger. At that time there was probably already a pilgrimage to the Virgin Mary in Zell. The late Gothic church was built at the end of the 15th century. The name Zell indicates a monastic settlement.

Zell am Pettenfürst, as the place was originally called, has also been a municipality since 1850. At that time the population was already around 1000. Around 1889 there was a landslide on the Pettenfirst. Here, too, two properties were so damaged that they had to be demolished.
