Wolfsegg am Hausruck ( dialect : "Woifsegg") is a market town in Upper Austria in the Vöcklabruck district in the Hausruckviertel with 2007 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020). The community is located in the judicial district of Vöcklabruck .

Wolfsegg am Hausruck is located at an altitude of 638 m in the Hausruckviertel. The extension is from north to south 5 km, from west to east 4.6 km. The total area is 11.9 km². 22.7% of the area is forested, 64.7% of the area is used for agriculture.

Population structure

The market town of Wolfsegg had 2,035 inhabitants on October 31, 2012, of which 1,018 were men and 1,017 women.

The rough age structure of the Wolfsegger population as of October 31, 2012 shows that 64.0% of Wolfseggers are over 15 and under 65 years old. At 17.0%, around a sixth of the population is younger and at 19.0% around a seventh of the population is older. The proportion of men and women in the main group is divided equally between 664 men and 639 women and 179 men and 166 women among the under-15s. Among the over 65s, the proportion is 175 men and 212 women.

Of the 1,690 Wolfseggians who were over 15 years old in 2012, 851 or 50.3% are women. 134 Wolfsegger, that is 7.9% of those over the age of fifteen, have graduated from a university, technical college or academy, the proportion of women is 48.5%. Another 174 Wolfseggers, that is 10.3% of the relevant population group, have the Matura, with the proportion of women at 52.9% being slightly higher than that of the population group concerned. 896 Wolfsegger, at 53.0% more than half of those over the age of fifteen, have completed an apprenticeship or vocational secondary school, with 45.3% women. 485 or 28.7% of Wolfseggers only have a compulsory school certificate. 59.2% of them are women.

The Middle or Danube Bavarian dialect is a Bavarian dialect form that is widespread throughout Upper Austria. The Eastern Austrian branch of Middle Bavarian goes back to the dialect of the Ostarrichi region of Babenberg that was created by the Eastern Bavarian settlement.

In the 2001 census, 1,940 people (97.9%) reported German as a colloquial language, 8 (0.4%) Turkish, 4 (0.2%) Croatian, 1 (0.1%) Bosnian, 1 (0.1%) %) Serbian, 1 (0.1%) Hungarian, 1 (0.1%) Czech, 25 (1.3%) another language.

In the 2001 census, 1,718 people (86.7%) stated that they were Roman Catholics, 63 (3.2%) Protestant, 26 (1.3%) Islamic, 6 (0.3%) Orthodox and 14 (0 , 7%) other faiths. 145 (7.3%) Wolfseggers have not professed any religion. Of 9 (0.5%), the confession is unknown.

Originally located in the eastern part of the Duchy of Bavaria, the place belonged to the Duchy of Austria since the 12th century . Since 1490 it has been attributed to Austria ob der Enns .

Since 1918 the place belongs to the federal state of Upper Austria . After the annexation of Austria to the German Reich on March 13, 1938, the place belonged to the Gau Oberdonau . After 1945 the restoration of Upper Austria took place.

The community was part of the Schwanenstadt judicial district until the end of 2004 and became part of the Vöcklabruck judicial district on January 1, 2005.

The last battles of the Upper Austrian Peasants' War took place in Wolfsegg in 1626 .

Wolfsegg's municipal council consists of 25 members. With the municipal council and mayoral elections in Upper Austria in 2015 , the municipal council has the following distribution: 15 ÖVP, 8 SPÖ and 2 FPÖ. Barbara Schwarz (ÖVP) has been the mayor since 2013 and received 52.21% of the votes in the direct mayor election. Vice mayors are Andreas Berger (SPÖ) and Franz Hofmanninger (ÖVP).

The coat of arms symbolizes the place name as a talking coat of arms . It is not known when the coat of arms was awarded. In 1551, Emperor Ferdinand I recorded the use of the market seal in Paragraph 16 of the Market Organization.

The first proof of the market emblem in the SIGIL. D: MARCH: WOLFSECKK is an impression on a file from March 25, 1677. The oldest known pictorial representation of the coat of arms can be found on the copper engraving "Wolffs Egg" in the Topographia Provinciarum Austriacarum by Matthäus Merian from 1649.

  • Barbara-Schaustollen: Lignite has been mined in Wolfsegg / Ampflwang since 1757. Up to 1967 coal was mined by Wolfsegg-Traunthaler Kohlenwerk AG in the market town of Wolfsegg am Hausruck. The last coal hunt was funded in 1995 in Schmitzberg, Ampflwang municipality. The coal mining tradition is maintained in the market town of Wolfsegg by the miners' association. The Barbara show tunnel at the sports field, built in 1996, is intended to commemorate this important time.

  • From 1983 to 2012 the annual summer ballet took place in August in the Wolfsegg elementary school.

Natural monuments

The Ottnangien natural monument is listed in the nature conservation book of the Upper Austrian provincial government . It is an old Schliergrube at the Schanze (hairpin curve of the road Wolfsegg – Ottnang) which has the stratotype profile ( type locality ) of the Ottnangium , a stratographic layer of the Neogene of the Central European Paratethys , the period of about 18.3-17 million Years in which the formation of the Schlier basement of the Hausruck and Kobernaußerwald range falls. The step was proposed in 1967 by the Austrian geologists Adolf Papp and Fred Rögl , and named after the nearby Ottnang.

In Wolfsegg, a tennis court and a soccer field were created by the respective clubs.

traffic

State roads lead to the surrounding towns and the neighboring districts and regions. The next motorway junctions are in the north at Meggenhofen ( Innkreisautobahn ) and in the south in Regau ( Westautobahn ).

The Ottnang-Wolfsegg train station is on the Attnang-Puchheim-Ried railway line in the Innkreis district of Ottnang . Another station was located in the neighboring village of Altenhof am Hausruck on the Lambach – Haag am Hausruck railway line , which was discontinued in 2009.

There are bus connections to Vöcklabruck and Haag am Hausruck as well as to places in the Vöcklabruck and Grieskirchen districts from various stops in the Wolfsegg municipality .

education

Wolfsegg has an elementary school and a new middle school with sports middle school in the compulsory school area . For the preschool child care, there is a Pfarrcaritas - kindergarten .
