coat of arms
Blazon : Divided by gold and black; at the top of the dividing line a green, upright acorn on a two-leaved stem; below a golden three-mountain topped with a black, diagonally crossed hammer and mallet. The community colors are black-gold-green.
The green color testifies to Ampflwang's location in a wooded area. The black field, the crossed hammer and mallet represent coal mining. The acorn with the oak leaves is taken from the coat of arms of the Khevenhüller family , the former landlords over part of Ampflwang.
history
The market town of Ampflwang in the Hausruckwald is located on the southern slope of the Hausruckwald , in a valley formed by low ridges and running from south to north. The place was first mentioned in 1169 and was a farming community until the discovery of brown coal around 1766. In 1809, Ampflwang, like the rest of the Hausruckviertel, fell to Bavaria in the course of the Napoleonic Wars , where it remained until 1814.
Since lignite and the associated Wolfsegg-Traunthaler-Kohlenwerke AG, which operated coal mining in the community, became more and more important, the number of residents rose to over 2000 after the First World War . The result was the conversion from a rural one on an industrial employment structure. Ampflwang was raised to the market in 1969 due to its economic importance in the Hausruck area. At the same time the right to use the municipal coat of arms was granted. In the 1970s the community reached a population of over 4,000 people. As early as 1961, the municipal council decided to declare Ampflwang a tourist municipality. Since then, the industrial town has been transformed into a tourist community and is best known today for its involvement in equestrian tourism.
Due to the extensive carbonization, the expiry of purchase agreements, but also the fact that the prime costs of Ampflwang coal were above world market prices, the mining operation was liquidated in 1995. Another small mining operation operated in an open pit has since been closed.

The municipal council has a total of 25 members. With the municipal council and mayoral elections in Upper Austria in 2015 , the municipal council has the following distribution: 13 SPÖ, 7 ÖVP and 5 FPÖ.

population
During the time when lignite mining was still in power in the Hausruckviertel, many people moved to Ampflwang because they could not find easy, but well-paid, mining jobs there. In the 1961 census, Ampflwang reached its peak with 3,965 inhabitants. After the WTK decided to close the plant in Ampflwang for economic reasons on May 25, 1995, the community now has around 14 percent fewer inhabitants due to the associated emigration. The efforts to preserve the place are now bearing fruit.

economy
The market town of Ampflwang was mainly characterized by agriculture, but since the middle of the 18th century also by mining. From the end of the 20th century and the decline of lignite production, the place created another mainstay with tourism. The founder of riding tourism in Ampflwang was Josef Mayr with the Hausruckhof riding center. Ampflwang, which also presents itself as the “village of 607 horses”, is known far beyond the borders of Austria as the “equestrian village” and enjoys a high degree of popularity among riding enthusiasts because of its numerous bridle paths of a large Icelandic horse stud .
The establishment of a Robinson holiday club ( Aldiana since 2018 ) made it possible to multiply the number of overnight stays. The 3600-inhabitant community now has well over 100,000 overnight stays annually and is therefore one of the largest tourism communities in the state, which has also been confirmed by its classification in tourism class A since 1999. Excursion and day tourism has also developed strongly in recent years due to the establishment of the Koaser Minerl horse farm, the Hausruckpark and the ÖGEG.
In addition to tourism, the rest of the industry was also able to report positive developments.
