The Robinson Club GmbH is a German tourism company based in Hannover . The company is a 100 percent subsidiary of the TUI group, which is also based in Hanover . Robinson operates plants in Europe , Africa and Asia under the motto “Time for feelings” .

history

The company was founded in December 1970 by TUI and the Steigenberger tourism company: a new hotel belonging to the Frankfurt Steigenberger Group in Jandía Playa in the south of the Canary Island of Fuerteventura was missing guests. With a new concept, the deficit house should still generate a profit. Together, TUI and Steigenberger worked out a “club holiday in a hotel”. The initially predominantly German guests were to be offered a vacation that stood out from the vacation hotel industry that was common at the time. For a group of guests who not only wanted sun and beach, but also activities, a concept for a sporty, entertaining and sociable holiday was created, with or without a child, alone or as a couple. The idea was first realized in the Robinson Club "Jandía Playa"; The club's equipment was initially spartan: there was no regular power supply, the shower water came from a well they dug, the drinking water was transported from a desalination plant in the north of the island.

In 1974, the first facility designed entirely by Robinson went into operation in Kenya, followed by other clubs around the Mediterranean and in the Alps. The club on Kos, built from 1988 to 1991, is a design by the architect Nikos Valsamakis and is today an architectural masterpiece of critical regionalism .

In 2000 Robinson opened a club for the first time in Germany, the Robinson Club Fleesensee in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. In 2009, Robinson Sarigerme Park in Turkey and Club Maldives in the Maldives opened. Robinson now has 25 club facilities in 16 countries.

By taking over the Steigenberger shares in 1989, Robinson became a 100 percent subsidiary of TUI.

The concept

The French Club Méditerranée, or Club Med for short, is considered to be the inventor of club holidays in 1950 . In terms of concept, Club Med and Robinson are similar: Both companies successfully rely on a lot of sport and entertainment in a casual atmosphere, plus special offers for families with children (“ mini clubs ”). The original concept was based on the active participation of the club vacationers as far as possible and on targeted animation to "overcome the social distance between the guests" and the creation of "we feelings", writes the author Frank Rumpf in a report on the 40th birthday of Robinson Club . This characteristic has almost disappeared in the meantime, however, "active guests" have become "predominantly passive consumers", according to Rumpf, who indulge in their sports programs or their need for rest. The initially sparse club facilities (Club Med began with tented villages) have now become luxurious hotel facilities with a spa and sophisticated cuisine. Nevertheless, the club concept is still very popular in its “modern form”, and Robinson in particular benefits from a high rate of regular guests. The name "Robinson" is based on Robinson Crusoe .

In some clubs special concepts are offered:
