Innerschwand am Mondsee is a municipality in Upper Austria in the Vöcklabruck district in the Hausruckviertel with 1,173 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020). The municipality lies in the judicial district of Vöcklabruck since the judicial district of Mondsee was dissolved on July 1, 2013.

geography

Innerschwand am Mondsee is 493 m above sea level in the Salzkammergut. The extension is 5.8 km from north to south and 6.1 km from west to east. The total area is 18.9 km², 51.3% of the area is forested, 38.6% of the area is used for agriculture. The municipality is traversed by the Wangauer Ache, which flows into the Mondsee near Loibichl .

history

Originally located in the eastern part of the Duchy of Bavaria, the place, like the entire Mondseeland, has belonged to the Duchy of Austria since 1506 .

During the Napoleonic Wars , the place was occupied several times.

Since 1918 the place belongs to the federal state of Upper Austria. After the annexation of Austria to the German Reich on March 13, 1938, the place belonged to the Gau Oberdonau . In 1945 Upper Austria was restored.

On May 11, 2007, the community was renamed Innerschwand am Mondsee.

Population development

In 1991 the community had 903 inhabitants according to the census, in 2001 it had 1050 inhabitants.

The three neighboring municipalities of Mondsee - Innerschwand, St. Lorenz and Tiefgraben - have a common municipal office in the "City Hall" on Wredeplatz in Mondsee (similar to a German administrative community ).

The municipal council has a total of 19 members. With the municipal council and mayoral elections in Upper Austria in 2015 , the municipal council has the following distribution: 13 ÖVP, 3 FPÖ and 3 SPÖ.

Blazon (official description of the municipal coat of arms): “Divided humiliated by green and blue by a golden wavy bar; at the top a golden ax placed at an angle, at the bottom a golden crescent moon that is open at the top. "

The community colors are green-yellow-blue.

The ax in the municipal coat of arms awarded in 1980 symbolizes the place name, which is derived from the word "schwenden" (= clearing). The crescent moon stands for the location of the place on the Mondsee as well as the former affiliation to the Mondsee Monastery .
