The seat of the administration of a municipality / locality is called the municipal office , in larger towns or cities in Austria and Germany also the town hall . In Switzerland, the term municipality or city administration is common. Cantonal municipal offices are subordinate to the municipalities. There are regional differences in the designation. The term community center is also used in Switzerland . The municipal office is the seat of the mayor or the mayor .

Austria

In cities, the designation is Stadtamt or Magistrat . The building itself is often referred to as the town hall in larger municipalities as well as in cities. The seat of the church administration in the parish is also occasionally referred to as the parish office ; the name parish center or parish hall is more common here .
