Aldiana is a German tour operator and hotel operator with ten club complexes in Europe and North Africa based in Frankfurt . The name comes from the Wolof language , one of the most important languages in Senegal and stands for "The place where the lucky ones live".

Aldiana offers sports facilities and events. In many clubs, Aldiana offers an all-inclusive offer, as well as child care and a program for families with children.

history

The 1970s and 1980s

Aldiana was founded in 1973 with the opening of the first plant in Senegal as a competing offer from NUR Touristic (today: Thomas Cook Group ) to the French provider Club Med. In 1982 a plant was added on Fuerteventura. At that time, in line with the club concept, the possibility of casual nudity was advertised. Further plants were initially built in Calabria / Italy, Crete / Greece and Tunisia. In 1985 the first club in Austria was opened with the Aldiana Arlberg.

The 1990s until today

The systems enjoyed increasing popularity, so that Aldiana gradually expanded. Aldiana currently operates 10 club facilities in Greece, Italy, Austria, Spain, Tunisia and Cyprus (as of March 2019). Further facilities in the Dominican Republic (Cabarete) and another club in Austria are already under construction. There will also be a new club in Switzerland, for which the Schweizerhof Vulpera , built in 1900, will be converted.

Ownership

Until 2005 the company belonged 100 percent to the Thomas Cook Group . Then the Spanish Grupo Santana Cazorla took over 75.1% of the shares in the company and invested in the form of renovations of existing facilities and new openings.
In November 2011 Jürgen Marbach took over 26.1 percent of the shares in Aldiana GmbH from the Spanish Grupo Santana Cazorla.
In October 2012, Thomas Cook sold the remaining 24.9 percent to Grupo Santana Cazorla.

In October 2013, Aldiana was 100 percent taken over by Jürgen Marbach . Almost a year later, in September 2014, Jürgen Marbach's MIC-Marbach-Group handed over all shares in Aldiana Holding to CTI Cleo Touristik International, which belongs to the Egyptian Cleopatra Group. On February 8, 2016, Aldiana announced that LMEY Investments AG, a Switzerland-based investor group, had taken over 100 percent of CTI Cleo Touristik International GmbH.

In 2017, Thomas Cook Group again took over 42 percent of Aldiana shares from LMEY Investments AG, but ceased business on September 23, 2019 due to bankruptcy. On the same day, the Aldiana management declared their "regrets about the bankruptcy of their minority shareholder Thomas Cook Group". This will not change anything for the ten Aldiana club facilities. Aldiana guests would not be affected by the bankruptcy. In the operative business, Aldiana can continue to act independently.
