Coal Mine ( bairisch Koigruam is pronounced), a settlement in the eastern Hausruck and locality of the Upper Austrian municipality of Wolfsegg . It was founded in 1794 and is considered one of the few mining colonies in Austria that has preserved its basic structure .

location

Kohlgrube is located around three kilometers east of the municipal capital, at 540–620 meters.

history

Lignite had been mined underground in Kohlgrube since 1776 , and the plants were closed after the eastern coalfield was burned out in 1964 . The real estate and areas formerly owned by Wolfsegg-Traunthaler Kohlenwerk AG (WTK AG) were mainly sold to former miners at the end of the 1960s . An industrial mining colony with over 1000 residents became a housing estate with around 130 residents.

Well-preserved residential barracks (colony houses), the former factory management and canteen as well as the area around the coal crushing and sorting plant bear witness to the past. The former coal crusher Kohlgrube has been used as a cultural venue since 2003, and the place became famous for performances of Franzobel premieres (including the Nestroy Prize).
