Kurt Klein (demographer)

Kurt Klein (* 1936 ) is an Austrian geographer and demographer .

Life

Kurt Klein, who studied geography, was an employee of the Central Statistical Office (today: Statistics Austria ) and most recently its vice-president. He was also a lecturer at the Institute for Economic and Social History at the University of Vienna . His professional focus was historical settlement geography and historical demography, with particular emphasis on source research. Even after his retirement he remained true to his field and is the author of numerous publications in this field. His main work is the historical local lexicon , a compilation of the Austrian population and settlement history, which he continued to add until 2016.
