The route runs partly on historical paths, crosses the Kobernaußerwald and leads past the Jakobskirchen in Roßbach , Höhnhart , Schalchen and Lengau in Upper Austria and the Jakobskirche in Obertrum in Salzburg .

For long stretches the path is identical to the Via Nova . The late Baroque St. James Church in Schalchen near Mattighofen along the way is one of the most beautiful St. James churches in Austria with 24 frescoes from the life of St. James .
