history

The first documentary mention of St. Florian was around 1150 and concerns the church and an associated Maierhof (today Frankenberger). At the time of the early church organization in the Middle Ages, the place belonged to the original parish of St. Weihflorian . Like the Münzkirchen parish , this consisted of areas that had originally belonged to the St. Severin parish in Passau's Innstadt . St. Weihflorian was first designated as an independent parish in 1182 when it was incorporated into the Passau “Innbruckamt”, which was subordinate to the St. Aegidien Hospital in the city center. The parish of St. Weihflorian was very extensive: It lay between the area of activity of the original parish of St. Severin and that of the original parish of Münsteuer and included the area of today's parishes of Brunnenthal , Schärding , St. Florian am Inn, Suben , St. Marienkirchen and Eggerding , plus shares in today's parishes of Taufkirchen , Lambrechte and Rainbach .

In the village of Teufenbach (today administratively divided into Ober - and Unterteufenbach ) there was a moated castle , which was also depicted in a copper engraving by Michael Wening in 1721 . Remnants of it have been preserved. The tomb of the Teufenbach castle owners is in the parish church of St. Florian. Ortholf von Teufenbach came from the oldest family who owned this castle; he was provost of Stift Reichersberg from 1326 to 1329 and 1335 to 1346 . Until 1779 St. Florian was under Bavarian sovereignty and came to Austria after the Treaty of Teschen with the Innviertel (then Innbaiern ). Bavarian during the Napoleonic Wars from 1810, it has belonged to Upper Austria since 1816.

After the annexation of Austria to the German Reich on March 13, 1938, the place belonged to the Gau Oberdonau . After 1945 the restoration of Upper Austria took place.

In the villages of Allerding and Gopperding, the Kapsreiter group from Schärding operated large stone quarries that were later taken over by Schärdinger Granit AG . By resolution of June 19, 2006, the Upper Austrian state government elevated the municipality to the market.

Population development

In 1991 the municipality had 2,717 inhabitants according to the census, in 2001 it had 2,990 inhabitants. This strong growth was possible because both the birth balance and the migration balance were positive. From 2001 to 2011 there was a slight emigration, due to the high birth rate the population rose to 3,089 people.
