The former hospital church , now used as a residential building, is located directly on the Inn and is east of the Marienbrücke in Rosenau. history

The Inn Bridge was built in Passau around 1145 and a connected hospital with its own church was laid out near the Innstadt. This hospital was founded as a leprosy house in 1160 by Canon Sigismund von Stockstall and pastor Heinrich von Sankt Paul on the site of the former Boiodurum Roman fort . The hospital church was consecrated to St. Aegidius and called St. Aegidien in Rosenau or St. Gilgen near Passau . The hospital, located in Rosenau east of the city center, was initially run as a leprosy hospital , and from around 1326 it served to care for the poor.

To finance the Innbrücke, the hospital and the hospital church, St. Agidien / St. Gilgen was awarded the income from the parishes of St. Severin and Münzkirchen , and in 1182 the parishes of St. Weihflorian and Tettenweis were added due to a donation from Bishop Diepold von Berg . St. Weihflorian was first designated as an independent parish in 1182, when it was incorporated into the “Innbruckamt” in Passau . The parish of St. Weihflorian , like the parish of Münzkirchen, consisted of areas that had originally belonged to the parish of St. Severin. In the course of the reorganization of 1182, the St. Aegidien / St. Gilgen, the previously independent parish St. Severin with the body responsible for managing the Inn Bridge "Innbruckamt" incorporated . Since then, the "Innbruckamt" has managed the Innbrücke as well as the parishes incorporated into the hospital, which were to be allocated by the respective "Bruckpfarrer". In addition to St. Severin with Schardenberg and Wernstein , these included St. Weihflorian , Hauzenberg , Kellberg , Kopfing , Münzkirchen and Tettenweis. Soon after the incorporation of St. Severin, the seat of this parish became the hospital church of St. Aegidien / St. Gilgen relocated. From 1182 to 1653, the church and parish of St. Severin also bore the name St. Aegidien / St. Gilgen. With the parish office in St. Aegidien / St. Gilgen was associated with the office of "Innbruck and Infirmary Master". Konrad II ordered around 1250 that the administration of the hospital and the “Innbruckamt” should henceforth be entrusted to a canon of the Passau cathedral chapter as benefice .

The hospital church of St. Aegidien / St. Gilgen existed until secularization in Bavaria in 1803 and was then sold in private ownership. The former rectory building of the parish St. Aegidien / St. Gilgen on the banks of the Inn in Passau was used in the 20th century by the local Innstadt brewery . The former hospital church now serves as a residential building (Kapuzinerstraße 61). It is a listed building and is one of the architectural monuments of the city of Passau .
