geography

Geographical location

Hauzenberg is located in the Danube Forest region in the southern Bavarian Forest . The city and the Freudensee are located in a wide basin, surrounded by steep, densely wooded mountain slopes. The highest point in the city and in the entire Passau district is the 950 m high Oberfrauenwald, on which a lookout tower has stood for a few years . This allows a wide panoramic view of the southern Bavarian Forest and Austria; On the northern slopes of the Oberfrauenwald there are several ski lifts in operation in winter . Hauzenberg is located 18 km northeast of Passau , 20 km south of Freyung and not far from the border triangle Bavaria - Bohemia - Upper Austria .

climate

The climate in the urban municipality differs considerably - due to the large differences in altitude. While the main town is 546 m high (St. Vitus parish church), the former Kaindlmühle train station is only 350 m high. The district of Bauzing - the highest larger settlement in the Passau district - is 800 meters high. These differences are particularly impressive in spring. The vegetation in the valley develops one to two weeks earlier than in the higher areas.

history

Until the church is planted

You have to make assumptions about the founding time and the founders of Hauzenberg. Around the year 1000 place names on "-dorf" and "-berg" became common. It can be concluded from this that the place Hauzenberg and a number of larger settlements in the area around the market emerged around this time. The area of Hauzenberg was settled with some certainty as early as the advance of the Bavarians in the 8th century. How far the Celts and Romans penetrated from the Danube into what was then the northern forest is uncertain. According to more recent findings, it seems to be certain that the first forms of settlement already existed in the Neolithic around 5000 BC. Stone Age finds on Staffelberg, which are kept in the town hall, should prove this.

In 1010 the area around Hauzenberg was donated by King Heinrich II to the Niedernburg monastery in Passau and is thus incorporated into the so-called "Abteyland". The highest elevation in the area, the Oberfrauenwald , is a reminder of this time. Hauzenberg is first mentioned in a document in 1130. At this time it already had a branch church of the parish of Kellberg . The parishes of Kellberg and Hauzenberg belonged to the St. Aegidien Hospital in the Passau Innstadt since the 12th century . The local “Innbruckamt” administered the Innbrücke and the Leprosen Hospital as well as the parishes incorporated into the St. Aegidien Hospital, which were to be assigned by the respective “Bruckpfarrer”. In addition to St. Severin with Schardenberg and Wernstein , these included St. Weihflorian , Kellberg, Hauzenberg, Kopfing , Münzkirchen and Tettenweis .

In the middle of the 14th century, Hauzenberg seems to have been a stately place with around 65 properties and some economic importance. Bishop Gottfried von Passau raised the town to a “private market” and gave it the associated “marriage” (local law in 45 paragraphs) and the freedom letter in 1359. The markets approved at that time still take place today.

The market of the bishopric of Passau , which had extensive own rights, was secularized in 1803 with most of the high bishopric area in favor of Ferdinand of Tuscany . Since the peace treaties of Brno and Pressburg in 1805 , the place has belonged to Bavaria. In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria , with the municipal edict of 1818, today's municipality was created, which was assigned to the Wegscheid district court and the Lower Danube district with the capital Passau. In 1838 the Lower Danube District was renamed the District of Lower Bavaria ; it corresponded to the administrative district . The district capital was moved to Landshut .

The Wegscheid district office followed the Wegscheid district court of the older order in 1862. Eight municipalities switched to the Wolfstein district office. On January 1, 1880, the Wegscheid district office was dissolved and assigned to the Passau district office. In 1888 this amalgamation was reversed and the Wegscheid district office was rebuilt. On January 1, 1939, the uniform designation Landkreis was introduced in the German Reich . So Hauzenberg was now in the district of Wegscheid .

20th century

In the years after 1933 the NSDAP carried out its own regional division, in the course of which the district headquarters of the party came to Hauzenberg and later to Passau. In the Hauzenberg market itself, an administrative partnership with the municipalities of Jahrdorf and Wotzdorf, based in Hauzenberg, was formed in 1937. In the course of the democratization of the administration, this structure was dissolved on June 1, 1948.

Gradually, the administrations of the individual communities were moved to the respective main locations. The municipalities remained economically connected and, in view of the increasing demands of the population on the state and municipalities, renewed attempts at rapprochement were noted as early as 1965. As part of a model case for urban and village renewal by the Bavarian state government, a joint land use plan for the communities of Hauzenberg, Jahrdorf, Wotzdorf and Raßreuth was drawn up, which, however, no longer became legally binding. This zoning plan finally became the basis for the reorganization of the area around Hauzenberg in the regional reform on January 1, 1972. Thus, the communities Germannsdorf , Jahrdorf , Raßreuth and Windpassing were incorporated into the Hauzenberg market. On July 1, 1972, the municipalities of Oberdiendorf and Raßberg followed along with the incorporation of the Wegscheid district into the Passau district .

As a possible medium-sized center, Hauzenberg has become the most important economic, educational and ecclesiastical focus in the southern Bavarian Forest and was promoted to town on April 28, 1978 because of its importance.

The regional reform finally came to an end on May 1, 1978 with the incorporation of the municipality of Wotzdorf and parts of the municipality of Oberneureuth with the main town of Krinning. On the same day, parts of the area with the towns of Hartingerhof and Manzenberg and with a total of less than 100 inhabitants were ceded to the neighboring municipality of Büchlberg . The state planning takes this into account. Through voluntary community associations, the population grew from 2,500 to 12,000. The Church joined this development. The parish association of Hauzenberg-Germannsdorf and the small parish of Haag coincide exactly with the final parish boundaries in 1976.

Population development

In the period from 1988 to 2018, the population fell from 11,924 to 11,649 by 275 inhabitants or 2.3%.

The Hauzenberg granite massif reaches an area of almost 60 km² and extends near the surface east-west of Hauzenberg 11 kilometers to Waldkirchen. The stone has been used since the 15th century, for example at Freudensee Castle in the village. This granite was quarried in more than 200 quarries in the area and was not only used in buildings in Bavaria, but throughout Germany and abroad.
