geography

Geographical location

Tittling forms the heart of the Dreiburgenland and is located in the Danube Forest region between the three-river city of Passau (23 km) and the Bavarian Forest National Park . The municipality extends at an altitude of 400 to 600 meters west of the Ilz , one of the last wild rivers in Bavaria. The place is known for its quarries , in which the Tittling granite is mined. The relatively high location on the slope of the 576 m high Blümersberg ensures that the place is free of fog almost all year round. On dry days, the view extends from Blümersberg to the chain of the Alps .

history

Until the 19th century

In 1155 the place was first documented as an aristocratic seat. The Tittling market in today's Lower Bavaria district belonged to the Counts of Taufkirchen until the Bavarian duke bought it in 1290. Thus the place was part of the Electorate of Bavaria and formed a closed Hofmark , whose seat was Tittling. The easily accessible place has had market rights with important proprietary rights since 1322 , so-called kirtas (markets) are still held four times a year. A severe fire on April 17, 1803 devastated the market and destroyed both the castle and the baroque furnishings of the Gothic parish church of St. Vitus. From 1890 to 1892 today's neo-Gothic parish church was built from Tittling granite and consecrated on September 21, 1893 by Bishop Michael von Rampf . It has a 72 meter high tower. The old church was demolished.

20th and 21st centuries

In 1945 Tittling was shot at by the Americans, after the end of the war there was a large prison camp in the village until 1946. Serious damage occurred to the market and the community, but Tittling recovered quickly, developed a healthy economy and was designated as a medium-sized center in the ordinance on the state development program (LEP) from September 1, 2013. In 1978 the community received recognition from the Bavarian State Ministry for Economic Affairs and Transport in the competition Our hospitable Bavaria and in 1982 the title of state-recognized resort .

Population development

Between 1988 and 2018 the market grew from 3,877 to 4,238 by 361 inhabitants or 9.3%.

  • 1840: 1477 inhabitants
  • 1900: 1964 inhabitants
  • 1970: 3924 inhabitants

politics

Market council

Since the local elections on March 15, 2020, the municipal council has been composed as follows:

Seats Share of votes
CSU 6th 39.50%
Green 1 3.55%
Free voters 3 21.19%
SPD 2 13.57%
Non-partisan voter community (ÜW) 4th 22.18%
total 16 100.00%

The turnout was 55.13%. Compared to the 2014 to 2020 term of office, the CSU and SPD each had to surrender one seat, while ÜW and Free Voters each won an additional seat.

mayor

The mayor has been Helmut Willmerdinger, an applicant proposed by the CSU, since February 14, 2012. He won the re-election on February 12, 2012 against Roswitha Toso from the citizens' initiative “Free Citizens Tittling” with 54 percent of the vote. Because CSU incumbent Waldemar Bloch resigned from the runoff election scheduled for November 27, 2011 without giving any reason, the ballot had to be repeated. In the meantime, the municipality and district electoral law has returned to the old legal position that was in place until 2008. In the meantime, there was a risk of abuse and manipulation.

The non-party Willmerdinger was confirmed in office on September 24, 2017 with 67% in the first ballot.

Since 1946 at the head of the community:

  • 1946–1948 Alois Raster
