Thurmansbang is a municipality in the Lower Bavarian district of Freyung-Grafenau , the seat of the administrative community Thurmansbang and a state-recognized health resort .

geography

Geographical location

The municipality is located in the Danube Forest region in the southern Bavarian Forest , more precisely in the Dreiburgenland . Thurmansbang is located around 30 km north of Passau , 18 km southwest of Grafenau , 22 km northeast of Vilshofen an der Donau and 15 km from the federal motorway 3 ( Garham exit ). There are very few connections with public transport.

history

Early history

Dormannesbanc first appears in a document in 1180, when a Heinrich de Dormannesbanc appeared as a witness at the Aldersbach monastery . In 1252 the Vogtei passed from the Ortenburgers to the Wittelsbachers . Turinspach is mentioned in the land register of Lower Bavaria from the beginning of the 14th century . It was the seat of a ducal judge. In 1386, a winegrower named an Andre bailiff to Turmanspankch in a court document . In the middle of the 19th century the spelling of the village was Thurmansbank .

In 1429 the exposition and already in 1476 the parish Thurmansbang was established. The Lords of Puchberg played a decisive role in this. Hartlieb von Puchberg sold a farm and an estate near Eging around 1456 , and his daughter Elisabeth, owner of the Fürstenstein estate , presented the new parish with a forest of around 100 days' work.

Thurmansbang belonged to the Landshut Rent Office and the Vilshofen Regional Court of the Electorate of Bavaria. The church was destroyed in the Thirty Years War and renovated in 1683. In 1763 the parish church of St. Markus was renewed and enlarged. In 1855 the parish counted 1910 souls. In 1904 the church was extended ten meters to the west and the tower was raised by one floor.

Incorporations

On January 1, 1972, part of the former municipality of Solla came to Thurmansbang as part of the regional reform in Bavaria .

Between 1988 and 2018 the municipality grew from 2,183 to 2,437 by 254 inhabitants or by 11.6%.

Culture and sights

Buildings

The baroque parish church of St. Markus from 1763 was extended in 1904. The tower dates from the Middle Ages and was raised by one floor in 1910. In the high altar there is a figure of St. Joachim. In the church and on the cemetery wall there are grave monuments of various Saldenburg lords and carers.

On the 622.6  m high Ochsenstiegl, located south-southwest of Thurmansbang, there is a 25 m high wooden observation tower .

Regular events

The elephant meeting , the world's oldest and largest winter meeting for motorcyclists, has been held annually since 1988 with more than 5000 visitors from all over Europe on the last weekend in January in Loh near Solla in the municipality of Thurmansbang.

Every year the "Flower Festival" takes place in the first week of August.

In 1998, according to official statistics, there were no employees at work subject to social security contributions in the manufacturing industry or in trade and transport. In other economic sectors, 194 people were employed at the place of work subject to social security contributions. There were a total of 767 employees at the place of residence subject to social insurance contributions. There were three companies in the manufacturing sector and five in the construction sector. Viticulture

In Thurmannsbang, the Baierwein , which was mentioned in a document as early as the 8th century, thrives on a small area . The place is thus in the second smallest wine-growing region in Germany and the smallest in Bavaria.
