history
Until the 19th century
On the way from the Danube to the once feared “Northern Forest”, the place offered rest and supplies for merchants and travelers. Zenting is mentioned for the first time in a document from 1151 as the property of the Counts of Formbach , when Count Adalbert (Ekbert III.) Gifted the Osterhofen monastery with it. The fate of the place was determined from 1151 to 1783 by the Osterhofen monastery. This had a church built in 1176, which was consecrated in 1178 by Bishop Theobald of Passau .
The monastery raised Zenting ( Centingen ) to a court mark . After the dissolution of the monastery in 1783, Hofmark belonged to the dominion of the St. Anna women's monastery in Munich for 50 years before Zenting was acquired by the state in 1833. The baroque parish church of St. James the Elder and St. Margaret was expanded in 1831. Zenting, originally a branch of Schöllnach in church terms , became a branch in 1798 and a parish in 1895 .
20th and 21st centuries
The municipality of Zenting gained national fame because it was there in 1920 that one of the first nationwide petitions and decisions was made. In February 1920, 81 of the 316 eligible voters demanded a vote on the early election of the municipal council. The background was that in the previous municipal council election there was only one list to choose from. However, since between the submission of the referendum and the referendum, the mayoral election was carried out by the local council responsible at the time, the voters themselves were no longer interested in the referendum. In the vote, only one citizen made use of his or her right to vote.
Today the place is enjoying increasing popularity in the tourism industry.

coat of arms
The description of the coat of arms reads: Split of silver and red; in front a left-facing, resisting, fire-breathing, red-armored green dragon with a spiked tail, behind a slanting left golden pilgrim's staff, separated from above and below by a facing golden shell.
The dragon as an attribute of St. Margaret refers to the patroness of the Premonstratensian monastery in Osterhofen and the close historical connection with Zenting. Zenting was Klosterhofmark until the abolition of the monastery in 1784 and then became the property of the St. Anna women's monastery in Munich. Pilgrim staff and pilgrim shells are attributes of St. Jacob and refer to the patronage of the local church of Zenting, which can be traced back to the 12th century and has been a parish church since 1895. The colors of the Diocese of Passau can be heard in the field tinging in silver and red.
