The community of Mauth was formed in 1811 with the settlements Finsterau, Heinrichsbrunn, Hohenröhren, Mauth, Waldmühl (Holzapfelmühl) and Zwölfhäuser. The municipal edict of 1818 assigned the Fürstenhütte (Neuhütte) and Vierhäuser settlements to this. 1825 appeared as further districts Neuhäusler and Neuhüttenmühle. In 1841 at the latest, Fürstenhütte and Neuhäusler had merged to form the Neuhütte district. The new Finsterau community was separated from the Finsterau and Heinrichsbrunn settlements with effect from January 1, 1900.
