Location of Annathal in Bavaria

The village of Annathal ( Howareit "Howareid" or Haberreit in the local parlance ) is a district of the municipality of Mauth in the Lower Bavarian district of Freyung-Grafenau . It formed an independent municipality until 1946.

location

The place is located in the Bavarian Forest at an altitude of almost 800 m and is surrounded by forests.

history

The history of the village can be traced back to a hunter's house, which was documented in 1724. The man living there is said to have understood how to grow good oats ("Howa"), so that all farmers from the area came to get seeds from him. The linguistic place name Howareit is derived from "reuten" for clearing . The surrounding trees were cleared and burned. "Howa" ( oats ) were grown on the resulting areas . The ash obtained from the slash and burn was used in the manufacture of glass in a nearby glassworks.

The Annathal community was dissolved in 1945 or 1946. Their area was divided between the communities of Mauth and Philippsreut . While Annathal was incorporated into Mauth, the villages of Mitterfirmiansreut and Hinterfirmiansreut , also belonging to the municipality of Annathal, came to Philippsreut.

structure

While many residents used to work in agriculture and forestry, today they are often also active as commuters in other branches of industry. There is a shop and two inns in the village. Until 1966 the children went to the local single class school . After their dissolution they attend the elementary school at the national park in Mauth. There are bus connections to federal highway 12, 3 km away , and thus to the German-Czech border in Philippsreut and the district town of Freyung . The place has 400 inhabitants.

chapel

A service is celebrated once a week in the Chapel of Saint Anne .
