Max Gibis (born February 13, 1973 in Freyung ) is a German politician ( CSU ) who has been a member of the Bavarian state parliament for the Christian Social Union (CSU) since 2013 .

Private life

Max Gibis has been married to Ulrike Gibis since September 2000 and has two daughters. He lives with his family in Mauth ( Freyung-Grafenau district ).

In 1990 he completed the secondary school leaving certificate at the Realschule in Freyung. From 1990 to 1993 he trained as a banker at Sparkasse Freyung-Grafenau. From 1995 to 1999 he was the branch manager in Finsterau at the Sparkasse . From 1999 to 2002 he was responsible for training and further education and from 2002 to 2008 Gibis was department head at Sparkasse Freyung-Grafenau.

Political career

Max Gibis joined the CSU as early as 1997 . From 2002 to 2005 he sat for the CSU in the Mauth municipal council. In 2005 he was elected first mayor of the municipality of Mauth. Until 2008 he held the mayor's office on a voluntary basis and from 2008 to 2013 he was finally the full-time mayor of the Lower Bavarian municipality of Mauth .

In the state elections in 2013 , he entered the Bavarian state parliament via the list in the constituency of Lower Bavaria . The CSU had regained the absolute majority it had lost in the state elections in 2008 and was able to move into the Bavarian state parliament with 12 candidates on the list in addition to the 89 direct candidates. Two members of the CSU from Lower Bavaria were able to move into the Bavarian state parliament via the list. One of them was Max Gibis.

For the state election in 2018 , the then CSU direct member of the Regen, Freyung-Grafenau district and former Bavarian Agriculture Minister Helmut Brunner declared that he would not run again. In the nomination of the CSU direct candidate, Gibis was able to prevail against the Mayor of Ruhmannsfelden, Werner Troiber, with 60 to 59 votes with one abstention. This is all the more remarkable since the Freyung-Grafenau district association, to which Max Gibis belongs, only provided 47 delegates and the Regen district association, from which Werner Troiber comes, had 73 delegates.

In the Bavarian state elections in 2018 , Max Gibis once again entered the Bavarian state parliament with 37.91% of the first votes as a directly elected member of the Regen, Freyung-Grafenau district.

Political positions

In his first legislative period in the Bavarian state parliament, Gibis sat on the committee for internal affairs, municipal affairs and sport and on the committee for questions of the public service.

Overall, Max Gibis is considered a fighter for the municipalities due to his origins and his previous work as mayor . In particular, he is of the opinion that municipalities need sufficient financial resources in order to be able to perform their duties of general interest for their citizens. In addition, he is particularly committed to the development of rural areas. It pursues the approach that through targeted structural funding, through relocation of authorities, through investments in digitization and infrastructure as well as through other state funding measures, equivalent living conditions can be created in town and country.

Honorary positions

In addition to numerous honorary positions at local and regional level, Max Gibis has been President of the Bavarian Forest Ski Association since 2015 .
