history

Until the church is planted

The village was mentioned for the first time in 1312, belonging to the Niedernburg monastery (Passau). At that time, a Christian von ring Laib appeared as a witness at a court sale. The strange place name is difficult to interpret, it probably describes the "Verleib" (Old High German: laiba), the place of residence, the settlement of a Ringolo.

The early reports repeatedly mention the fertile soil and great prosperity of the village compared to other villages in the Bavarian Forest. This is where the border area between the Passau Monastery and the Electorate of Bavaria ran . At the Geistlichen Stein, boundary stones from 1691 are still preserved today. There was a temporary Christkindl pilgrimage in Ringelai. A church was built on the site of a chapel in 1752. It gave way to a new building from 1919 to 1921.

The place in the Hochstift Passau was secularized in 1803 with most of the Hochstift area in favor of Archduke Ferdinand of Tuscany and only fell to Bavaria in 1805.

20th century

On April 27, 1951, the municipality name Kühbach was officially changed to Ringelai .

The Perlesreut administrative community was formed on May 1, 1978 from the communities of Fürsteneck , Perlesreut and Ringelai. On January 1, 1994, the Ringelai community was released from the administrative community.

Population development

Between 1988 and 2018, the community grew from 1,800 to 1,875 by 75 inhabitants or 4.2%.

  • 1987: 1813 inhabitants
  • 1991: 1961 inhabitants

coat of arms

The coat of arms description of the coat of arms from 1965 reads: In blue over a silver mountain of three, in it a three-leaf green clover, a golden border stone, which is underlaid with a silver wave bar. The Dreiberg points to the location between three mountains, the wave beam to the Wolfsteiner Ohe. The boundary stone reminds of the former border between the Hochstift Passau and the Electorate of Bavaria before 1803. The clover leaf is a symbol of the fertility of the soil.
