Wasching is a district of the Ringelai community in the Lower Bavarian district of Freyung-Grafenau , Bavaria . Until 1971 it formed an independent municipality.
location
The place is north of the main town Ringelai in the Bavarian Forest .
history
The village was first mentioned in 1308 as Wezzi or Wezil . The name ending -ing suggests an old German personal name as the origin. This means that the village was probably created during the time of the migration of the peoples as part of the Frankish conquest , which spread from the west to today's German-speaking area from around the 7th century.
Up until the territorial reform in 1971, Wasching was an independent municipality with the towns of Adelsberg, Bucheck, Eppenberg, Haag, Hötzelsberg, Hundswinkel, Kapfham, Kramersbrunn, Saldenau , Wasching and Wolfersreut. This small community had just under 600 inhabitants.
The description of the coat of arms reads: Three times divided by silver and blue, covered with a curled red tip, inside a silver border stone on a silver mountain.
The boundary stone is a reminder of the agreement between Kurbayern and the Passau bishopric at the end of the 17th century on the course of the borders of the sovereign territories that still apply to the districts of Wolfstein and Grafenau. The colors silver and blue or silver and red allude to the coats of arms of the bishopric of Passau and Bavaria, but are also reminiscent of the coat of arms of Cardinal Johann Philipp Graf Lamberg (1652–1712), who was Prince-Bishop of Passau from 1689 to 1712, who im Bavarian Forest organized many community boundaries and church districts.
