Kühbach belongs to the political and church community Ringelai in the Freyung-Grafenau district , Lower Bavaria . Until the name change on April 27, 1951, today's municipality of Ringelai was called Kühbach .

The village is located in the Danube Forest region in the Bavarian Forest , south of the main town. State road 2127 runs west of the village .
Because of its climatically favorable location, in a valley surrounded by wooded mountains, this area is also called " Merano of the Bavarian Forest" or Schmalzdobl . The shooting club "Schmalzdoblschützen Kühbach" was founded in 1963 and has been a registered club since 1980 .
