Diepold Graf von Berg , also: Theobald, (* around 1140; † November 3, 1190 in Akkon ) was the 30th Bishop of Passau from 1172 to 1190 .

Diepold von Berg comes from the Upper Swabian counts of the von Berg family . He was born around 1140 as the son of Count Diepold II von Berg-Schelklingen and Gisela von Andechs. Both his older brother Heinrich and the younger Manegold played an important role in the history of the Diocese of Passau . His third brother Otto II von Berg was Bishop of Freising.

Diepold was ordained a priest on June 10, 1172 by Bishop Heinrich I von Gurk . On November 23 of the year he was at the urging of the (present at the ceremony) Emperor Friedrich Barbarossa and with the consent of Pope Alexander III. new bishop of Passau. He thus succeeded his brother Heinrich .

In 1178 he took part in the provincial synod in Hohenau am Inn and in 1179 traveled to the 3rd Lateran Council in Rome.

After Passau was ravaged by a major city ​​fire in 1181 , Diepold worked hard to rebuild the cathedral and the residence .

In 1182 Diepold transferred the income from the parishes of St. Weihflorian and Tettenweis to the St. Aegidien Hospital in the city ​​center . At the same time, the parish of St. Severin with the "Innbruckamt" responsible for the administration of the Passau Inn Bridge was formally incorporated into the St. Aegidien Hospital .

In 1189 he accompanied Emperor Friedrich Barbarossa on the unsuccessful Third Crusade and finally died - together with six Passau canons - in November 1190 during the siege of Acon in the field camp in front of the city of an epidemic. Diepold was buried in the Holy Land.
