Thiemo of Passau

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Thiemo (* unknown; † 1105 ) was a Passau counter-bishop from 1087 to 1105 .

Life

Originally from Franconia , Thiemo was appointed by Emperor Heinrich IV as the successor to the opposing bishop Hermann von Eppenstein . Before that he was canon of the cathedral in Würzburg. There are no sources for an episcopal ordination; it is listed as an elect until 1099 .

According to " Vita Altmanni " it was only recognized in the west of the diocese, that is, in the area up to the Enns.

Thiemo succeeded in regaining the county rights over the city of Passau after these were probably lost in 1078 through royal intervention by Ulrich von Vohburg as the newly appointed burgrave. After his childless death in 1099, Heinrich IV, who had meanwhile been crowned emperor, decided to return the rights to Thiemo. These rights remained with the Passau bishops until the diocese was secularized.

Thiemo probably died around the year 1105. An indication is that Bishop Ulrich I returned to Passau at this time and was able to consolidate his position in the diocese .
