Berengar of Passau

Berengar von Passau (* in Passau ; † July 14, 1045 in Passau) was the 20th bishop of Passau from 1013 to 1045 .

Berengar was the son of a rich citizen and probably one of the few Passau bishops born in Passau. During Berengar's tenure, the Hungarian Queen Gisela came to Passau to join the Benedictine monastery in Niedernburg , where she soon worked as abbess . On Ascension Day in 1045, the later Emperor Heinrich III stayed. as a guest of Bishop Berengar in Passau. He maintained close relationships with the future abbot Gotthard von Niederaltaich and the famous hermit Gunther.
