NGC 3049 is a barred spiral galaxy with a high rate of star formation of the Hubble type SBab in the constellation Leo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 60 million light years from the Milky Way and about 40,000 light years in diameter.
The object was discovered on March 20, 1882 by the French astronomer Édouard Jean-Marie Stephan .
