NGC 3051 is an elliptical galaxy of the Hubble type E / SB0 in the constellation Antlia in the southern sky . It is an estimated 104 million light years from the Milky Way and about 65,000 light years in diameter.
The galaxy is a member of the NGC 3054 group , which continues to include NGC 3054 , NGC 3078 , NGC 3084 , NGC 3089 , IC 2531 , IC 2537 , ESO 499-026, and ESO 499-327 .
The object was discovered by John Herschel on March 24, 1835 .
