NGC 3054 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBb in the constellation Hydra south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 99 million light years from the Milky Way and about 115,000 light years in diameter.
The galaxy is the namesake of the NGC 3054 group , whose members also include NGC 3051 , NGC 3078 , NGC 3084 , NGC 3089 , IC 2531 , IC 2537 , PGC 28803 and PGC 28874 .
The supernovae SN 2004de and SN 2006T (Type-IIb) were observed here.
The object was discovered on April 3, 1859 by the German-American astronomer Christian Heinrich Friedrich Peters .
