NGC 3053 is a spiral-shaped radio galaxy of the Hubble type SBa in the constellation Leo on the ecliptic . It is an estimated 162 million light years from the Milky Way and about 90,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 3041 , NGC 3048 , NGC 3060 , IC 581 .
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on January 14, 1787 .
