NGC 3038 is a spiral galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble type Sb in the constellation Antlia south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 115 million light years from the Milky Way and about 85,000 light years across . Together with NGC 3087 , NGC 3120 , IC 2532 , PGC 27856 and PGC 28074 , it forms the NGC 3038 galaxy group .
The object was discovered by Lewis Swift on February 27, 1886 .
