NGC 3087 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E0 in the constellation Antlia south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 110 million light years from the Milky Way and about 65,000 light years in diameter .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies IC 2534 and IC 2532 .
The object was discovered by John Herschel on February 2, 1835 .
