NGC 3082 is an elliptical galaxy of the Hubble type E / S0 in the constellation Air Pump in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 118 million light years from the Milky Way and about 65,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies IC 2531 and IC 2533 .
The object was discovered by John Herschel on March 30, 1835 .
