IC 2531 is a spiral galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble type Sc in the constellation Antlia south of the celestial equator . It is estimated to be 101 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 220,000 light years in diameter.
The galaxy is a member of the NGC 3054 group , which continues to include NGC 3051 , NGC 3054 , NGC 3078 , NGC 3084 , NGC 3089 , IC 2537, and PGC 28874 .
The Type Ia supernova SN 2007cj was observed here.
The object was discovered by Lewis Swift on February 15, 1898 .
