NGC 3081 = IC 2529 is a lenticular galaxy with an active galaxy core of the Hubble type SB0 / a in the constellation Water Snake south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 98 million light years from the Milky Way and about 65,000 light years in diameter.
The object was discovered by William Herschel on December 21, 1786 and entered into the NGC. Rediscovered by Lewis Swift on April 11, 1898 and incorporated into the IC.
