IC 2538 is a bar-spiral galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble type SBc in the constellation Antlia south of the celestial equator . It is estimated to be 397 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 180,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 3120 , IC 2534 , IC 2536 .
The object was discovered by DeLisle Stewart on May 1, 1900 .
