IC 2542 is a spiral galaxy of the Hubble type Sbc in the constellation Little Leo in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 272 million light years from the Milky Way and about 75,000 light years across.
In the same area of the sky is u. a. the galaxy IC 2544 .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on May 12, 1896 .
