NGC 3089 is a bar-spiral galaxy with extensive star formation areas of the Hubble type SBb in the constellation Antlia in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 112 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 60,000 light-years across.
The galaxy is a member of the NGC 3054 group , which continues to include NGC 3051 , NGC 3054 , NGC 3078 , NGC 3084 , IC 2531 , IC 2537 , ESO 499-026, and PGC 28874 .
The object was discovered on February 5, 1837 by the British astronomer John Herschel .
