Ulrich II of Passau

Ulrich II. (* Unknown; † October 31, 1221 in Egypt ) was the 34th Bishop of Passau and the first Prince-Bishop from 1215 to 1221 . He is the namesake of the Bischof-Ulrich-Straße.

Before his election as bishop, Ulrich was an Austrian protonotary.

On January 21, 1217, Ulrich was given the Ilzgau as a so-called "Fahnenlehen" by the later Emperor Friedrich II . As a result, the king made him the first prince-bishop of the Passau bishopric . Ulrich II and his successors were henceforth direct imperial princes. In 1219 Ulrich II had a castle built on Georgsberg , the Veste Oberhaus . He also founded several monasteries in the eastern part of the diocese.

Ulrich II died on October 31, 1221 on the Damiette crusade in Egypt.
