Gottfried von Weißeneck

Gottfried von Weißeneck († 1362 ) was the 45th Bishop of Passau from 1342 to 1362 .

He came from a Carinthian ministerial family, which at that time rose to an important role in imperial church politics, and was a relative of the Salzburg Archbishop Ortolf von Weißeneck and the Seckau Bishop Ulrich von Weißeneck .

He expanded the old residence with additions and fortifications.

In 1344 he confirmed the foundation act to raise the parish of Gallspach. In 1354 he gave the place Kreuzberg the important market rights. In 1359 he made the town of Hauzenberg a "private market" and gave it the associated "Ehhaft" and the letter of freedom. The markets approved at the time still take place today. The parish church of St. Vitus, which has existed for a long time, is also mentioned there. After building a church, the parish Wegscheid was raised to market by him in 1360.

As early as 1358, Prince-Bishop Gottfried von Weißeneck organized the largest medieval tournament. 160 knights determined their best in Hacklberg .

In 1360 Passau Bishop Gottfried von Weißeneck pledged Schalenberg Castle near Kleinzell in the Mühlkreis .
