Wolfgang von Closen

Wolfgang von Closen (* around 1503 in Aidenbach ; † August 7, 1561 in Passau ) came from the Lower Bavarian noble house of the Closen and was the 59th Bishop of Passau from 1555 to 1561 .

Life

Born at Haidenburg Castle near Aidenbach, Wolfgang von Closen was dean of the cathedral from 1552 before he was appointed Bishop of Passau on December 20, 1555 . When he moved into the city in July 1556 he was received by cheering citizens. The episcopal ordination donated him the Salzburg Archbishop Michael von Kuenburg on 11 October of the following year.

During his reign, the stair tower in the inner courtyard of the upper house and the wine vault on Residenzplatz were completed. He also appointed a new city ​​council and mayor .

Wolfgang von Closen died on August 7, 1561; at last he had a serious gout disease. He was buried in the cloister of Passau Cathedral , but his gravestone is lost.
