Fröschl came from the rich patrician class of the Bavarian saltworks town of Reichenhall, his father was the salt boiler lord Ludwig Fröschl († before 1481). After studying law at the University of Vienna , Wiguleus went to Rome to the papal court, where he was ordained priest in 1467 . From 1478 he worked as a canon in Passau. As a mediator in the so-called “Third Passau Bishops Dispute”, he traveled to Rome a few more times. From 1480 Fröschl held the office of Vicar General for Lower Austria for five years and therefore stayed in Vienna. From 1486 to 1490 he was Vicar General for Upper Austria; Upper and Lower Austria originally belonged to the diocese of Passau . Fröschl took over the position of cathedral dean in Passau from Christoph von Schachner when he became prince-bishop in 1490. After his death he was elected 56th Bishop of Passau on January 14, 1500. Pope Alexander VI confirmed the election on April 29, 1500 and personally donated Fröschl von Marzoll's episcopal ordination on May 14, 1500 .

The economically flourishing city of Passau suffered a severe setback with the devastating floods of 1501. As a reaction to the catastrophe, the bishop began a work of reform, which, among other things, provided for the reduction of the tax burden for his subjects. In 1503 he convened a diocesan synod "to improve the deeply sunken church discipline", which had the aim of renewing the clergy. With his attempt to reform the church from within, he showed himself to be quite open to the problems of the Catholic Church on the eve of the Reformation .

Wiguleus Fröschl died on November 6, 1517, and he found his final resting place in Passau Cathedral .
