Reginmar

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Reginmar († September 30, 1138 ) was bishop in the diocese of Passau from 1121 to 1138 .

Reginmar's origin is unknown. He promoted the monasteries and founded the abbeys Aldersbach (1120), Asbach (1125), Ranshofen (1125), Klosterneuburg (1133), Heiligenkreuz (1134) and Altenmarkt (1138).

At the same time he expanded the parish network of the diocese. Only now were more and more clearly demarcated parishes established with their own pastor , which meant that the private churches lost their importance.

Reginmar worked closely with Margrave Leopold III. from Austria together. In September 1135, the margrave in Greifenstein renounced the tithe of 13 own parishes in favor of the bishop. With his successor Leopold IV , he signed the Mautern barter agreement in 1137 : The margrave handed over the Viennese parish with St. Peter's Church to the bishop , the margrave received extensive land around Vienna with the exception of an area outside the city wall, where a large new parish church was being built should, from which the St. Stephen's Cathedral later emerged.

The annals of Melk Abbey and other monastery chronicles criticize Reginmar's secular way of life and his discrimination against secular priests .
