Old Residence Passau
The old residence is located in the old town of Passau opposite the cathedral .
The current building stock essentially dates from the 15th to 17th centuries, the oldest preserved part is the Romanesque doorframe from 1180. The prince-bishops are first mentioned in 1188 as the owners of the bishop's palace. The extensions in the second half of the 16th century were carried out by Leonard Uttner and Christoforo Canevale . The Zengerhof , which today houses the district court , extends along Zengergasse . In the halls on the upper floor there are stucco ceilings from the Carlone School from 1685 and from Giovanni Battista d'Allio from 1720. To the east is the court chapel, secularized in 1803, with a portal by Balthasar Vecchio from 1693. The chapel room now serves as the courtroom of the regional court. On the second floor there are five representative rooms from the 18th century as well as the upper court chapel, the Indian trellis room and the audience hall.
The building is connected to the New Residence via the so-called Saalbau .
