history
Until the church is planted
Under Bavarian Duke Hugbert (724-736) , a nobleman from the Wilhelminer family named Wilhelm founded a nunnery at a place called Chirihpah . A traditional note from the Hochstift Passau provides information about the founding process. The monastery was then to his daughter Irminswind with the oblation passed, to submit to a monastic institution. On her deathbed she called Passau Bishop Waldrich and men from her relatives and announced in this group that she would hand over the cell to her niece, the nun Sapientia. After their death, the nun Imma should take over the monastery. At the same time she subordinated all nuns of the monastery to the diocese of Passau . Your relatives should report this decision to Charlemagne and obtain his approval. This oldest aristocratic monastery in Bavaria, which was presumably located on the site of today's Kühbach (about three kilometers from Rotthalmünster), was not (verifiably) destroyed in the first half of the 10th century as a result of the Hungarian storms .
The place Rotthalmünster belonged to the Counts of Vornbach and Neuburg around 1150 and finally came to the Wittelsbacher . The place, already known as a market in the 13th century, belonged to the Landshut Rent Office and the Griesbach Regional Court of the Electorate of Bavaria . "Münster", as the place was called until the middle of the 18th century, had a market court with its own magistrate rights. In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria , the municipality Rotthalmünster came into being with the municipal edict of 1818 .

coat of arms
Blazon: In blue a single-towered silver church, on the red roof of which there are two silver storks.
Like most of the Lower Bavarian markets, the Rotthalmünster market has had its own coat of arms in its seal for centuries.
Even the oldest, with an imprint from the year “1374 MVNSTER”, shows the same image that is still used today by the Rotthalmünster market in the coat of arms and the official seal of the administration.
While the church symbolizes the former monastery, the storks point to the earlier frequent occurrence of these animals in the river landscape of the Rott.
