District court Passau
The Passau District Court is a court of ordinary jurisdiction , as well as one of 73 district courts in Bavaria . The district court is housed in two buildings in Schustergasse and in Heilig-Geist-Gasse.
history
After the transition from the Hochstift Passau to the Kingdom of Bavaria , a so-called regional court (older order) was set up in Passau in addition to the district and city court . On October 9, 1838, the former Passau Regional Court, which was subordinate to the Passau District and City Court, was divided into the two Regional Court districts Passau I and Passau II. In 1879, in the course of the introduction of the Courts Constitution Act, the previous Passau City Court was merged with the previous Passau I and Passau II regional courts to form the Passau District Court. The forerunner of today's Passau Regional Court , on the other hand, is the Bavarian District Court of Passau, founded in 1857 , which was converted into a regional court at the same time in 1879 .
building
After the Passau District Court was established, it was housed in the Old Residence together with the Passau Regional Court and the public prosecutor's office . In 1905 the district court moved to the Herberstein-Palais on Schustergasse. In 1987, the former prince-bishop's carriage house in Heilig-Geist-Gasse was acquired and the registry court was relocated here in the early 1990s.
Schustergasse building
The building in Schustergasse ( ⊙ ) was erected in the middle of the 16th century by the canon Count von Herberstein. It is therefore also called Herberstein-Palais . After the city fire in 1662, a major renovation took place, to which the building owes its current facade design and the stucco ceilings inside. The palace served as the mayor's apartment for a long time and was privately owned in the 19th century. In 1905 the district court moved from the old residence to the Herberstein-Palais. Due to a lack of space, the side wings were raised in the 1950s and an extension at ground level was added. The building was painted red, which is characteristic of today, in 1966. In addition to the baroque stucco from the period after 1662, there are also paintings from the early Rococo period . The garden hall (salla terena) is worth mentioning here
Heilig-Geist-Gasse building
The building in Heilig-Geist-Gasse ( ⊙ ) was built under Prince-Bishop Cardinal Johann Philipp von Lamberg , who held the office of Imperial Principal Commissioner at the Regensburg Reichstag . In order to be able to fulfill this task, he had a stables built in today's Theresienstraße (today the Passau penal institution ). At the back of this building complex on Heilig-Geist-Gasse there was also a carriage depot, which today houses the registry court. After the secularization , the royal salt office was housed in this carriage depot. In 1873 the building went into private ownership and was bought by Bayerische Warenvermittlung in 1936 , which rebuilt it several times and used it as a store from 1980. In 1987 it was bought by the Free State of Bavaria to accommodate court and judicial authorities and then rebuilt. In 1991 the facade prize of the city of Passau was awarded.
