Asbach is a district of the Rotthalmünster market in the Lower Bavarian district of Passau . Until 1972 it formed an independent municipality.

location

Asbach is located in the Rottal at the Asbacher Bach about three kilometers northwest of Rotthalmünster on the state road 2116.

history

The history of Asbach is closely connected to the Asbach monastery . This was built as a cella at the time of Bishop Otto von Bamberg (1102–1139). The Klosterhofmark Asbach coincided with the borders of Asbach. As early as 1336, Duke Heinrich confirmed his rights to the monastery in a letter, although the Counts von Hals were still Asbach's bailiffs. The first written mention of Hofmark Asbach is for the year 1397. Mostly members of the lower nobility of the area acted as monastery judges. In 1752 13 mercenaries and 24 empty houses lived within the town and court of Asbach.

In terms of administration, Asbach formed a chairman in the Weng office of the Griesbach district court . Asbach monastery was dissolved in the course of secularization in Bavaria on March 21, 1803, the festival of the founder of the order, St. Benedict . The church of the monastery was made into the parish church of the Asbach parish, which was established in 1806. The prelate's stick served as a school from then on. The rest of the monastery property was sold. The purchase letter of the electoral administration of August 11, 1803 confirms that Lorenz Lang acquired the monastery buildings for 16,000 guilders, plus 3,147 guilders for existing beer, brandy and building materials. The lower courts went over like the other spiritual Hofmarken to the regional court Griesbach.

In 1811, the Asbach tax district was formed from the Asbach governor and parts of the Thanham governor . The resulting municipality of Asbach coincided with the tax district. In 1824 it had nine districts. When the district court of Rotthalmünster was separated from the district court of Griesbach on April 12, 1838, the municipality of Asbach came to this and after 1862 belonged to the district office of Griesbach i. Rottal.

In 1952 the municipality of Asbach had the following districts: Altasbach, Berg, Hellham, Holzhäuser , Maierhof, Neugertsham, Priel, Riedhof, Rucking, Schneepoint and Volkertsham. On January 1, 1972, the municipality of Asbach, which belonged to the district of Griesbach im Rottal , was incorporated into the Rotthalmünster market as part of the regional reform in Bavaria .
