Life

After the death of his father, Heinrich and his brother Otto IV became Duke of Lower Bavaria, initially under the tutelage of Ludwig of Bavaria , who had prevailed against the Habsburg Frederick the Fair in the dispute over the guardianship of the young dukes. When Lower Bavaria was split up into three domains with the division of Lower Bavaria in 1331 , Heinrich ruled Straubing, Schärding and parish churches for a year in addition to the Landshut residence, until the division was lifted the following year. Further quarrels with his brother Otto and his cousin Heinrich XV. around the rule in Lower Bavaria, relations with Ludwig the Bavarian later deteriorated, so that Heinrich temporarily allied himself with his father-in-law Johann von Böhmen, whom he also accompanied on a trip to Prussia in 1336/37 .
