Masking agents

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Masking agents are chemical substances that are used in, among other things, spot analysis and chelatometry . They can be used to hide interfering ions in an analysis so that the investigation of the actual ion is not impaired. Both inorganic ions and organic compounds can be used as masking agents.

In sport, masking agents can also make it difficult or even prevent the detection of doping agents in the body. For example, substances such as diuretics are used as masking agents , which make doping controls more difficult due to the increased dilution of the urine . The use of masking agents themselves is also considered doping.
