Rudolf Preisinger

Rudolf Preisinger (born December 17, 1957 in Rotthalmünster ) is a German agricultural engineer and geneticist . He is the managing director and chief geneticist at Lohmann Tierzucht in Cuxhaven , a market leader in German poultry farming .

Rudolf Preisinger studied agriculture from 1977 to 1981 at the Weihenstephan University of Applied Sciences , Schönbrunn Department, with a degree in agricultural engineering (FH). From 1981 to 1984 he studied agricultural sciences, specializing in animal production, at the University of Kiel and received his degree in agricultural engineering. From 1984 to 1986 he was a research assistant at the Institute for Animal Breeding and Husbandry at Kiel University. In 1986 he received his doctorate. From 1987 to 1992 he was a university assistant at the University of Kiel in the Institute for Animal Breeding and Husbandry. Since 1993 he has been working as a geneticist at Lohmann Tierzucht in Cuxhaven . In 1994 he completed his habilitation in the field of animal breeding and domestic animal genetics at the University of Kiel, where he then taught initially as a private lecturer and since 1998 as an adjunct professor .

Since 1998 he has been the managing director of Lohmann Tierzucht in Cuxhaven and also head of its genetics department. In 2011, Preisinger received a suspended fine for “torturous animal abuse” because he had combs and toes amputated for years at the Lohmann company , which caused the animals long-lasting pain and was only used for identification purposes.

Preisinger is a member of the competence group of the initiative “A question of husbandry - new ways for more animal welfare” founded in 2014 by the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture for the field of farm animals . He received the Hermann von Nathusius Medal of the DGfZ at the joint lecture conference of the German Society for Zuchtungskunde (DGfZ) and the Society for Animal Breeding Sciences (GfT) on September 20, 2016 in Hanover .
