The district of Wegscheid belonged to the Bavarian administrative district of Lower Bavaria . Its former area is now part of the Passau district .

Neighboring areas

In 1972 the district bordered the Wolfstein district in the north and the Passau district in the west . In the east and south it bordered Austria ( Upper Austria ).

history

district Court

After the establishment of the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1806 was in the course of administrative restructuring of Bavaria , the district court built Wegscheid and the lower Danube Circle slammed with capital Passau.

In 1838 the Lower Danube District was renamed the District of Lower Bavaria ; it corresponded to the administrative district . The district capital was moved to Landshut.

District Office

The Wegscheid district office followed the Wegscheid district court of the older order in 1862. Eight municipalities switched to the Wolfstein district office.

On January 1, 1880, the Wegscheid district office was dissolved and assigned to the Passau district office.

In 1888 this amalgamation was reversed and the Wegscheid district office was rebuilt.

On January 1, 1939, the uniform designation Landkreis was introduced in the German Reich . So the district office became the district of Wegscheid.

On July 1, 1972, the districts of Wegscheid and Griesbach im Rottal as well as many communities from the district of Vilshofen were assigned to the district of Passau as part of the regional reform in Bavaria .

License Plate

On July 1, 1956, the district was assigned the distinctive sign WEG when the vehicle registration number that is still valid today was introduced . It was issued until April 28, 1973.
